In today's lesson we explored the impact of digital technology on exhibition
A good film projector produces a clear, crisp, vibrant image, however, every time the print is projected the film is damaged and picture quality degraded
Some directors may argue against switching to digital such as not wanting to incur the cost of the change over,it not creating the desired effect the director requires, piracy whilst some directors argue for due to it being easy and no shipping involved, nor prints for the distributor.
To ensure it works piracy would need to be a lot less easier to make illegal copes, as they may be of a much higher quality than before, also a more advanced encryption system needs to be in place, this will be a large cost to cinemas currently about £75,000 per auditorium.
Until cinemas can show digital films, film makers are reluctant to make them and until film makers make digital films there is no point in the cinemas buying the projectors.
This opens up competition to Hollywood through decreased production and distribution costs could ruin Hollywood allowing other countries to make larger scale films
